What to know before designing an outdoor kitchen?

What is the best shape for an outdoor kitchen?
The dimensions and geometry of your terrace must be taken into account when designing an outdoor kitchen. A terrace is limited by factors such as arrangement, size and load-bearing capacity, inclines, obstacles and unevenness.
Outdoor kitchens on terraces have a linear or L-shaped geometry. Some larger terraces can accommodate a U-shaped layout or include an outdoor kitchen island with a bar extended counter and stools around it to create a more sociable space.

Outdoor Kitchen Design Ideas
Often, the place where the outdoor kitchen is installed already has a built-in water or drainage point that can’t be moved. In this case, the design of the kitchen will have to be adapted to this installation.
Quality outdoor kitchen furniture is always made of stainless steel and must be designed to withstand various weather conditions such as rain, cold, heat, UV, etc.
A common solution to all installation problems on a terrace is to lay a floating engineered floor or floating porcelain floor.
This type of floor allows installations to be installed underneath without having to modify the terrace drainage slopes. Fesfoc outdoor kitchens are designed for installation on floating technical floors or floating ceramic tiles.

Customize your Outdoor Kitchen
If you like stainless steel outdoor kitchens, at Fesfoc we’re specialists. Choose from a wide range of models and sizes of all-stainless steel barbecues and outdoor kitchens. You can choose between AISI 304 and AISI 316 stainless steel, always satin polished or also known as brushed polished finish.
Alternatively, if you prefer a ceramic finish, we have over 100 different finishes with which you can cover the furniture and worktop of your outdoor kitchen.
Where is the best location to put an outdoor kitchen?
A shaded area on your terrace or in your garden will allow you to enjoy summer in a cooler place, or simply to shelter from rainy days. That’s why you can choose to place your outdoor kitchen under a porch or a pergola.
If you don’t have any of these three elements, we recommend placing the outdoor kitchen in the north-facing part of the house, which will give you the most shade.
Are there any outdoor dishwashers available?
However, if you don’t have a covered space in your home, you need to make sure that your outdoor kitchen will be able to withstand different weather conditions.
For example, if you want to install an outdoor dishwasher, there is no brand in Europe that makes outdoor dishwashers, so you’ll need to install an indoor dishwasher.
In this case, you should be aware that this equipment is not designed to withstand environmental changes, rain, UV rays, high summer temperatures, etc.
So, if you place it outside, even if it’s covered, it will automatically lose its warranty. That’s why, at Fesfoc, we only use appliances guaranteed to withstand the elements all year round, even if the kitchen isn’t covered.
What is the best surface for an outdoor kitchen?
The Best Materials for Outdoor Kitchens
The most recommended, resistant and durable materials for outdoor use are AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel, if you’re in a sea area (the sea area is considered to be that which is less than 5 km from the sea). Another great solution is porcelanic surfaces.
Materials not recommended for outdoor kitchens
Wood is not recommended for an outdoor kitchen design, as it requires a lot of maintenance, given that it already suffers a lot of wear and tear simply from UV rays. What’s more, rain and humidity accelerate its deterioration.
Aluminium Outdoor Kitchens
Aluminum is not a good choice, as it has a very low resistance compared to stainless steel and is a material that can rust. Oxidized aluminum is not phytosanitary, so it contaminates food.
If you notice, the outdoor kitchens of professional restaurants are made of stainless steel, because it’s a material that’s very easy to clean, doesn’t contaminate food and retains its aesthetic appeal over time.
Plastic Kitchen Furniture
The selection of plastic materials, HPDE, PVC, polypropylene, HPL, etc… is not recommended for outdoor kitchens, as they are subject to heavy aesthetic wear due to UV rays.
In addition, heat, cold and humidity affect their molecular structure, and, over time, they crack and become dull, reducing their structural strength.
You Shouldn't Build Your Own Outdoor Kitchen
The choice of microcement, concrete and reinforced concrete is not ideal, as they are highly porous. When first used, they can easily be stained by tomato, oil, wine, grease… and this stain cannot be removed.
Even if a layer of varnish is applied, over time it loses its properties and eventually stains. It’s an economical solution, but if you want something that doesn’t require maintenance over time and looks good, it’s not the right choice.
Marble Countertop
for Summer Kitchens
Real marble is not recommended for outdoor kitchens, as it is composed of calcium carbonate and is highly porous. Calcium carbonate reacts with products such as Coca Cola, wine, tomatoes… and becomes stained.
Although it has a protective layer, this protection is temporary and this time is considerably reduced when it is placed outdoors. One of the first elements that will damage the protective layer is the simple UV rays from the sun. This is why it’s best to use synthetic stones that imitate marble, as they have an identical finish and don’t present the problem of stains.
What materials are suitable for a outdoor kitchen?
To avoid additional costs after a few years, we use materials of the highest possible quality.
All materials used in Fesfoc outdoor kitchens are guaranteed to withstand the elements and weather, whether the outdoor kitchen is sheltered or not.
